| About The New York Rendokan | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The New York Rendokan, Inc., located in Manhattan's Washington Heights, near major highways and convenient public transportation was organized by Shihan Robert S. Weinberg for the preservation of traditional Shorin-ryu karate, Toei-ryu Jujutsu, Okinawan Kobujutsu (weaponry) and Okinawan culture. The Chief Instructor and Director of the New York Rendokan, Robert S. Weinberg, has been a Certified Master Instructor ("Shihan") since 1973 and now holds an Eighth Degree Black Belt ("Hachidan") in Shorin-ryu karate and Fifth Degree Black Belt ("Godan") in Kobujutsu. Mr. Weinberg has been a student of martial arts for fourty-five years. In addition to karate, jujutsu and weaponry ("Kobujutsu"), he has studied Japanese Judo, Kendo and collegiate wrestling. In 1972 Mr. Weinberg travelled to Okinawa to study with Grandmaster Eizo Shimabukuro. He has returned to Okinawa numerous times since then and has now become the Grandmaster's senior student in the United States. Mr. Weinberg is assisted by long-term students Felix Sanes (Renshi, Sixth Degree Black Belt), Gary S. Moriwaki, Fifth Degree Black Belt, Daniel Cohen, Fourth Degree Black Belt, Zhen Guo, Third Degree Black Belt, Susan Lee, Third Degree Black Belt, and others. |
